Moving an Indian store to Shopify is mostly straightforward, with three catches that most pages selling Shopify migration services skip. Shopify's free migration app moves only products and customers, and does not support Magento or OpenCart at all. Customer passwords never move. And Shopify's fixed URLs will break your old product links unless each one is redirected.
This guide covers what moves, which tool fits your platform, the redirect rules that protect rankings, the India setup (GST, Razorpay, cash on delivery and shipping) and what migration costs in rupees. Everything was checked against Shopify's help pages on 23 October 2026.
What moves to Shopify, and what does not
| Data | Does it move? | How |
|---|---|---|
| Products | Yes | CSV or an app; Shopify allows 3 options and 2,048 variants per product |
| Customers | Yes | CSV up to 15 MB or an app; duplicates by email or phone are skipped |
| Customer passwords | No | Customers are invited to set a new password |
| Past orders | Yes, but not by CSV | A migration app or Shopify's API; turn off order notifications first |
| Reviews | Not natively from WooCommerce or Wix | Re-import through a reviews app, or a paid migration tool |
| Blogs and pages | Yes | An app or API, or copy by hand |
| URLs and SEO | Only through redirects | 301 redirects from every old URL to its new one |
| Shipping, tax, payment settings, theme | No | Rebuilt in Shopify |
Which migration tool to use for your platform
Shopify's official Store Migration app is free but limited: it supports WooCommerce, Wix, Square, Etsy, Amazon, eBay, Clover and Lightspeed, and moves products and customers only. Everything else needs a paid app or an agency.
| Moving from | Free official route | Practical route |
|---|---|---|
| WooCommerce | Store Migration app | Matrixify or LitExtension for orders, plus a reviews app |
| Wix | Store Migration app or CSV | A third-party app for orders; reviews re-imported separately |
| Magento or Adobe Commerce | None | Matrixify, LitExtension or an agency |
| OpenCart | None | LitExtension or an agency |
| Custom cart | CSV | An agency importing through Shopify's API |
What the paid tools cost
Matrixify is the only major tool with published plan prices: a free tier for 10 items of each type, then $20 a month for up to 5,000 products and $50 a month for up to 50,000, with orders, redirects and blog posts included. LitExtension and Cart2Cart price per item through an estimator and offer small free demo migrations; LitExtension charges extra for SEO URLs, 301 redirects and passwords on its automated plan.

Redirects, SEO and the India setup after the move
Shopify uses fixed URL patterns, so your old links will almost certainly change: WooCommerce's /product/ pages, Magento's .html URLs and OpenCart's index.php links all need to point to Shopify's /products/ and /collections/ pages.
Shopify's redirect rules
- Create redirects before you move the domain, in Content, Menus, URL Redirects, or import them in bulk by CSV.
- A store can hold up to 100,000 redirects, or 20 million on Shopify Plus.
- Redirects only fire on URLs that return a 404. If an old path still loads a page, the redirect does nothing.
- The /products/, /collections/ and /collections/all paths are fixed and cannot themselves be redirected, and nor can URLs with collection tag filters.
- After launch, test your highest-traffic old URLs first, resubmit your sitemap in Search Console and keep a backup of the old store for at least 90 days.
Carry over page titles and meta descriptions for every product and category page that already ranks. Our guide to website migration services explains what a proper migration includes.
GST, payments, cash on delivery and shipping
GST: Shopify ships default India tax rates (CGST 9%, IGST 18%, SGST 9% for Karnataka) that you must edit for your state and product slabs, with HSN codes in the tariff code field and collection overrides for different rates. Shopify does not generate GST-compliant invoices or file taxes, so you will need an invoicing app or service.
Payments: Shopify Payments is not available in India, so you will use Razorpay, PayU or Cashfree. Razorpay connects through its official "All-in-one Razorpay Payment Gateway" app with no API keys needed. The gateways charge about 1.95% to 2% on domestic payments plus GST, and Shopify adds its own fee on every gateway order: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus.
Cash on delivery: COD is a built-in manual payment method in Shopify, and Shopify charges no third-party fee on manual payments. COD verification apps can add OTP checks or pincode limits.
Shipping: Shiprocket's Shopify app has a free plan and paid plans from $3 a month, and Shiprocket's own pricing lists plans from free to ₹799 a month. Our guide on whether Shopify works in India covers the setup in more depth.

Migration providers to shortlist
KLoc Technologies (Bengaluru) is a Shopify Premier partner with 4.9 from 621 reviews in Shopify's directory and lists store migration from $999. Lucent Innovation (Shopify Plus partner, India office in Ahmedabad) moved Jade Blue from Magento and Nicobar from a custom platform. Avid Brio (Ahmedabad, Premier partner) handles Plus and B2B moves from NetSuite and BigCommerce.
Webkul (Noida) is a long-time Magento specialist. CartCoders lists store migration at $499 to $7,999 in Shopify's directory. Viha Digital Commerce offers migrations as a Shopify and Shopify Plus partner, according to its site.
Gleam, the Bengaluru studio behind this guide, builds Shopify stores and handles redesigns, so it suits owners who want a new theme designed during the move rather than a copy of the old one. If you only need data moved, the specialists above fit better.
Worried about losing rankings in the move?
Send us your current store URL. We will send a free redirect check of your top-traffic pages, showing which URLs will break on Shopify and how to map them.
The decision rule: on WooCommerce or Wix with only products and customers to move, the free app and a careful redirect list will do. Past orders, reviews or a Magento store call for Matrixify or another paid tool. Pay for Shopify migration services when theme work, integrations or thousands of redirects make doing it yourself risky.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Shopify migration cost in India?
Doing it yourself with Shopify's free app costs only your plan, from ₹1,499 a month billed yearly. Matrixify costs $20 to $50 a month for most stores. Indian agency price lists start around ₹1 lakh for up to 500 products and ₹2 lakh for up to 5,000, and large Plus migrations cost far more.
How long does a Shopify migration take?
A simple store usually takes two to four weeks, a store with apps and integrations four to eight weeks, and a large Shopify Plus migration with ERP or B2B eight to sixteen weeks. Automated data transfer itself can take days; testing, redirects and theme work take most of the time.
How do I migrate WooCommerce to Shopify?
Install Shopify's free Store Migration app, which moves WooCommerce products and customers. Past orders need Matrixify or LitExtension, and reviews are re-imported through a reviews app. Turn off order notifications before importing orders. Before the domain moves, create 301 redirects from the old /product/ URLs to Shopify's /products/ pages, then set up GST, Razorpay and cash on delivery.
Will I lose my Google rankings after migrating?
Not if every changed URL gets a 301 redirect before the domain moves. Shopify allows up to 100,000 redirects, but they only work on URLs that return a 404, and product and collection paths follow fixed patterns. Keep titles and descriptions for ranking pages, and check Search Console after launch.
How do I migrate Magento or Wix to Shopify?
Wix is supported by Shopify's free Store Migration app, or by CSV, for products and customers; orders need a third-party app and reviews are re-imported separately. Magento and Adobe Commerce have no free official route, so use Matrixify, LitExtension or an agency that imports through Shopify's API. Either way, redirect every old URL, including Magento's .html pages, before switching the domain.
