Updated 14 October 2026. A website in India costs ₹8,000 to ₹30,000 for a static site, ₹50,000 to ₹5,00,000 for a dynamic or ecommerce site, and ₹1,00,000 to ₹10,00,000 or more for a web application. Four things move the number: the type of site, whether it is custom designed, the features it needs, and who builds it. Hosting, maintenance and SEO continue after launch and are the costs most quotes leave out.
We build websites in Bengaluru for clients across India, so every range below is one we have quoted, paid for, or seen on a published rate card. Start with the table if you are budgeting; read on if you want to know why two honest quotes for the same brief can differ five times over.

Website cost by platform: Webflow, WordPress, Shopify or custom code
The platform decides the recurring bill as much as the build cost. These are the ranges from our own pricing guides, with the platform fee shown separately from the design and build work.
| Route | Platform cost | Design and build | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Webflow (Premium site plan) | $25 a month billed yearly, about ₹25,000 a year, domain extra | ₹50,000 to ₹5,00,000+ for a custom agency build | Marketing sites with a blog or CMS, launched in weeks |
| WordPress | Hosting ₹7,000 to ₹25,000 a year plus plugin licences ₹10,000 to ₹40,000+ | ₹50,000 to ₹5,00,000 for a dynamic site | Content-heavy sites with an in-house editor |
| Shopify or WooCommerce store | Shopify subscription or annual hosting, plus about 2% of every sale in gateway fees | ₹50,000 to ₹2,00,000 starter; ₹2,00,000 to ₹5,00,000 custom; ₹8,00,000+ enterprise | Selling online |
| Custom code | Hosting and infrastructure priced per project | ₹1,00,000 to ₹10,00,000+ | Web apps, platforms and unusual requirements |
If you are choosing between the first two, Webflow vs WordPress gives the year-one cost of each in INR, Webflow pricing and Framer pricing cover the plans line by line, and the online shop cost guide covers stores.
Factors that move the price
Two agencies can quote ₹1,00,000 and ₹5,00,000 for the same one-line brief and both be honest. The difference is almost always one of the five factors below, and who builds it matters as much as any of them.
1. Website type: static, dynamic, ecommerce or web app
A static site is a set of fixed pages: who you are, what you do, how to reach you. It is the cheapest to build and the cheapest to keep. A dynamic site adds content that changes, such as a blog, case studies, listings or user logins, and needs a content management system behind it. An ecommerce site adds products, payments, inventory and order handling, which raises both the build cost and the security work. A web application is custom software that happens to run in a browser, and is priced like software.
The type sets the floor. Everything else in this guide moves the price within the range for that type. Our separate guides cover the cost of a marketing website, the cost of an ecommerce store, the cost of a corporate website and the cost of a single landing page.
2. Development approach: custom code or no-code
Custom code gives total control and costs the most, because you are paying developers by the hour for everything, including the parts a platform would give you for free. It is the right choice for web applications and for sites with requirements no platform supports.
No-code and low-code platforms such as Webflow, Wix and Squarespace provide hosting, the CMS, forms and security as part of the subscription, so the build is faster and the quote is lower. For marketing sites, portfolios and small stores, a well-built Webflow site is usually the better value, and it is what we recommend to most startups and small businesses in India. The trade-off is a monthly platform fee and less flexibility for unusual features.
Rule of thumb: custom code when the site is the product, a platform when the site is the marketing.

3. Design: template or custom
A template keeps design cost near zero and gets a site live quickly. It also looks like a template, and most sites in your category are using one too. Custom design, with its own layout, typography, illustrations and motion, is where a site starts to carry the brand, and it is the single biggest discretionary line in a quote because it is skilled, slow work.
Custom design is worth paying for when first impressions decide whether a prospect calls, which is true for most agencies, consultancies and B2B companies. For a short-lived or internal site, a template is fine. Our guide to design services cost in India prices the design work on its own.
4. Features and integrations
Every feature is development and testing time. A contact form is trivial. Online payments, customer logins, booking calendars, live chat, multi-language content and integrations with a CRM or accounting tool each add days of work and, often, a third-party subscription. The cheapest site is the one that does only what the business needs on day one.
List the features you need at launch and the ones you want later. Building the second group now is how a ₹1,50,000 site becomes a ₹4,00,000 site.

5. Who builds it: freelancer, agency or specialist
Rates in India span a wide band. The figures below are the published bands we found when researching how to hire a web developer in India.
| Option | Typical rate | What you are buying |
|---|---|---|
| Freelancer | Project-based, wide range | One person's skill and availability |
| Established agency | $15 to $49 an hour (published band) | A team, a process and continuity |
| Premium specialist | $50 to $99+ an hour | Depth in one stack or one outcome |
Freelancers are cheaper up front because they carry no overhead. The risk is capacity: one person does design, build and support, and the project stalls if they are unavailable. Agencies cost more and survive a team member leaving. For a site the business depends on, weigh the risk, not only the invoice. Our list of website development companies in India applies these ranges to real vendors.
What you pay after launch
Launching is the start of the running costs, and this is the part most first-time buyers do not budget for. These are the annual figures from our website maintenance guide.
| Cost | What it covers | Typical annual cost |
|---|---|---|
| Domain and hosting | The address and the server it runs on; on Webflow this is the site plan | ₹7,000 to ₹25,000 |
| Core maintenance | Updates, backups, security and small fixes | ₹10,000 to ₹60,000+ |
| Software licences | Premium plugins and tools, mostly on WordPress | ₹10,000 to ₹40,000+ |
| Annual maintenance contract | What agencies quote for the above as a package | 15 to 20% of the original project cost |
| SEO and content | The work that makes the site findable on Google and keeps it growing | From about ₹25,000 a month, or ₹3,00,000 a year |
Put together, a business site costs roughly ₹1,500 to ₹7,000 a month to keep running before any marketing spend. A site that has aged past what maintenance can fix becomes a website redesign, which is a separate line item.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a basic website cost in India?
A static website costs ₹8,000 to ₹30,000 in India. That covers a simple informational site with standard design. Add ₹10,000 to ₹60,000 per year for maintenance if you want it kept updated and secure. Custom design work pushes the build cost up from there.
How much does an ecommerce website cost in India?
An ecommerce website in India typically costs ₹50,000 to ₹5,00,000 depending on catalog size, payment integrations, and design. Platform choice matters: hosted platforms reduce upfront build cost but add monthly fees, while custom builds cost more upfront with lower recurring charges.
Why do website quotes in India vary so much?
Quotes vary because "website" covers everything from a template brochure site to a custom web application. The main cost drivers are site type, custom design versus template, features like payments or logins, and ongoing maintenance. Two honest agencies can quote 5x apart because they assumed different scopes, so fix the scope first.
Is it cheaper to hire a freelancer than an agency in India?
Usually yes upfront: freelancers carry less overhead. The trade-off is capacity and continuity, one person handles design, build, and support, and projects stall if they are unavailable. Agencies cost more but survive a team member leaving. For business-critical sites, weigh the risk, not just the invoice.
How much does a website cost per month in India?
Hosting or the platform plan runs ₹600 to ₹2,100 a month, and maintenance ₹800 to ₹5,000 a month, so a business site costs about ₹1,500 to ₹7,000 a month to keep live and secure. Marketing, content and SEO are extra and start around ₹25,000 a month when done by an agency.
How much do web developers charge per hour in India?
Established agencies publish bands of $15 to $49 an hour, premium specialists $50 to $99 or more, and freelancers usually quote per project rather than per hour. Most website projects are quoted as a fixed price, so ask for the scope behind the number rather than comparing rates alone.
How to budget for your website
Decide the type of site first, because it sets the range. Then decide what the design has to do for the brand, list only the features needed at launch, and choose the builder whose published work matches your category. Add the running costs to the quote before you compare vendors, since a cheap build with expensive upkeep costs more within two years than a dearer build on a platform that includes hosting and security.
There is no single price for a website in India, but there is a defensible one for your brief. If you want ours, send the brief and we will reply with an itemised quote at no cost.
